TaNisha Fordham ’05 Keeps Creating and Sharing her Talents with SHA At SHA’s career day in 2021, TaNisha Fordham presented the keynote address to the full student body via Zoom. Even though she was not present in the building, her energy filled the halls and the students clearly heard her message: You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Since then, TaNisha has lived out that message through her work as a writer, producer and performer. In October of 2021, she accepted the position of associate director for the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Company , which has since won five Tony Awards. Behind the scenes, in between rehearsals, matinees and on breaks, TaNisha began to write her story. These journal entries ultimately became the poetic narrative, The EGOT. The title is an acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, a nod to the accolades given by others, but the focus of the book is that the real value of an individual comes from within. TaNisha adapted The EGOT into the musical production Snatch Yo’ Free which debuted at Mulberry Commons Park in her adopted hometown of Newark, NJ in July. Sharing the empowering message of her show with Western New York students is a high priority, and after the show’s run in New Jersey, TaNisha will bring it home to Buffalo. She has scheduled performances for eighth graders engaged in the Buffalo Prep program and for the student body at SHA. TaNisha clearly remembers the power of gathering in community in the SHA Aud with her fellow students and knew that the energy in that environment was a perfect match for the show. “That gathering of students was the MOST impactful space when I was a student. Being in the auditorium again, sharing space with the SHA girls would be unspeakably powerful.” TaNisha’s performance is scheduled as part of SHA’s Homecoming Week on October 21.
