It’s a legacy of both character and faith.” By that measure, Jacqueline Shea Wopperer ‘52 and George Wopperer are a true success story. Jackie and George exemplified character and faith and passed these values on to their nine children. They actively served their community and each was dedicated to their respective alma maters, Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. Their children and even grandchildren followed in their footsteps by attending and joyfully supporting these schools. Jackie was a 2003 Christus Super Omnia Distinguished Alumna in recognition of her professional and volunteer accomplishments and her devotion to Sacred Heart. In the 1990s, Jackie served on a planned giving committee, and in the early 2000s she chaired a successful capital campaign, helping secure a strong future for SHA. In May of 2016, Jackie returned to her Savior’s loving embrace. In 2023, as George neared the end of his earthly life, he was compelled to ensure that Jackie’s name and legacy would carry on at Sacred Heart. Thanks to a provision in his will, his children proudly presented Sacred Heart with a $25,000 check to endow the Jackie Shea Wopperer ‘52 and George Wopperer Scholarship. An endowed scholarship will last in perpetuity, and create an enduring impact on young women forever tying Jackie and George’s legacy of faith and character to Sacred Heart. Jackie Shea Wopperer ‘52 and George Wopperer were proud and loving parents and grandparents. Granddaughter Georgi Stoj Toth ‘14 visited with them while volunteering at the 2013 Christus Super Omnia Scholarship and Awards Dinner.
