We are profoundly grateful for their generosity. and the National Honor Society. She felt supported by her teachers—emotionally, academically, and spiritually. And she also felt supported by the broader SHA community. “I was literally supported to simply be at SHA by the donors who allowed for my scholarship,” Ava shared. “At first, I didn’t understand why someone would give money to a high school so that a child they didn’t know could attend. After four years, I understood.” Ava went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied marketing, joined a sorority, held leadership roles, interned extensively, and built relationships that helped her grow personally and professionally. Today, she is a Brand Management Associate for the Buffalo Bills. In her words: “The things I learned at Sacred Heart Academy, both outside and in the classroom, gave me the confidence to love the life I lead.” Ava is a shining example of what becomes possible when donors invest in the next generation of Sacred Heart women. “Why would someone give money to a high school just so another child whom they don’t even know can attend? After four years, I understood.” Ava Verrastro ’21 on the Buffalo Bills sidelines. 7
