SacredHeart-AnnualReport2223

BUFFALO ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART Annual Report 2022-2023 Maureen Piazza ’83 and Favio Lopez met in the early 1980s on the campus of what is now known as Canisius University. An urban college experience was comfortable for both, as Maureen grew up in the city of Buffalo, and Favio, after emigrating from Cuba with his parents, was raised in Brooklyn. Maureen and Favio are both grateful for their transformative Catholic High School experiences. Because of the impact Sacred Heart had on Maureen, she felt particularly compelled to help students living in the City of Buffalo enroll at Sacred Heart. From Favio’s perspective as an executive leader in a multinational corporation, this is an investment in a student and in society. “Catholic schools in general, and specifically Sacred Heart, have the ability to form students intellectually but also ethically. The world is thirsting for bright women with strong values to lead us into the future. That is what Sacred Heart is contributing and why we give to Sacred Heart.” Maureen and Favio have made the commitment to meet the financial needs of a promising student for her four years at Sacred Heart. In addition, they are continuing to build an endowed scholarship in Maureen’s name which will live in perpetuity and continue to create opportunities for young women. Their intentions align perfectly with Sacred Heart’s foundresses, the Sisters of St. Francis, who continually answer the call to serve the underserved and make the world a better place.
